Hello & Welcome to
The Colorado Abandoned Newsletter!
Summer is Here in Ernest!
100+ Degree Days have been the norm for a while now and it is really starting to make us look forward to fall and milder temperatures. The days are slowly getting shorter, county fairs are coming and going quickly, and the kids will be going back to school now. All the anticipated signs that we will be getting cooler weather and frost on the pumpkin before we know it. We just say, Bring It On!
How Hot Is It?
It's so hot... I saw a squirrel picking up nuts with pot holders!
It's so hot... I saw the Devil in Wal-Mart buying an air conditioner!
It's so hot... Cows are giving powdered milk!
It's so hot... My thermometer goes up to "Are you kidding me?"
It's so hot... I bought a loaf of bread and before I got home it was toast!
Lame, but fun and appropriate.
Discombobulated Vintage Vehicle
In late June we had a chance to visit an amazing location that is just loaded with old, rusty, abandoned cars, trucks, tractors and all sorts of farm and gas station goodies. Of course, we had to pick one of the hottest days of the summer but that didn't stop us from getting in a few hours of capturing the abandoned.
It's hard to describe the excitement we get sometimes when we find a little gold mine of photography opportunities like this. Not everybody understands or gets it but suffice it to say, we had an Awesome time photographing all this goodness and are very much looking forward to returning to this sweet spot under more tolerable conditions.
Colorado Abandoned Book Update
On becoming a reality... it has Officially Been Released as of July 29th, 2019!
Along with our our publicist at Arcadia Publishing, we are working on setting up some Book Signings for the very near future. We will announcing our schedule in upcoming issues of this newsletter, facebook and on our website. The publisher/distributor is currently in the process of moving all their inventory to a different warehouse and this has been causing some delays in shipments.
In the meantime, you can get the book from our Publisher by clicking Here! (As of the release of this newsletter, it says that they are on backorder but our sales manager assures that they will ship when ordered)
The book is also available for order on Amazon and is listed as a Prime offer. You can find it HERE!
Capturing the Abandoned Podcast
We certainly do have fun interviewing our fellow explorers that we follow on Instagram and Facebook. What a treat it is to get to know them as artists and as individuals. This helps us all to understand their passion for the type of photography/art they create and it helps to continue to develop that bond that many of these explorers have with others in this shared community.
We have some wonderful guests scheduled up to the beginning of the new year and many more to contact and setup for an interview. We have Jill @alluring_epiphany, Jeremy of @inthebluffs, Gina of @ruralrevivals, and Kelly of @theforgottensouth currently lined for future episodes to share their experiences and adventures with us! Be sure to follow the links to see some amazing images!
In addition to being the co-host for this show, Lex Nichols provides the music beds that we use on each episode. Starting with the last few episodes, we have been adding the complete track at the end of the podcast so our audience can listen to it without any voice track over it.
