Colorado Abandoned Newsletter V13

Hello & Welcome to
The Colorado Abandoned Newsletter!
V13

Staying Warm & Reminiscing

We already have a big start on the New Year and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Colorado Abandoned (more info below).

This is kind of the slow time of the year, at least for getting out and shooting some abandoned stuff. It does give us some time to look back at some of the images we have created and maybe spend a little time processing them. This is a fun pastime as it helps to bring back some of the good times we had while we were out trying to capture some new, interesting goodies to share with everyone.  Oh yes, reminiscing, not a bad way to spend an evening or three when the temperature is in the teens and below outside.

Anyway, on with the Newsletter!

On Bleak and Abandoned

Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.
~ Allen Klein

To not have any hope is where things start to get really bleak. Things are possible. The impossible can be possible.
~ Sarah Paulson

I have to believe there's redemption in the darkest of circumstances; otherwise it's too bleak for me.
~ Paddy Considine

Art is never finished, only abandoned.
~ Leonardo da Vinci

Reality seems valueless by comparison with the dreams of fevered imaginations; reality is therefore abandoned.
~ Emile Durkheim

Old books that have ceased to be of service should no more be abandoned than should old friends who have ceased to give pleasure.
~ Bernard Baruch

Continuous eloquence wearies. Grandeur must be abandoned to be appreciated. Continuity in everything is unpleasant. Cold is agreeable, that we may get warm.
~ Blaise Pascal

Colorado Abandoned Group on Facebook

Please join us on our Colorado Abandoned Facebook Group

The group continues to grow and there seems to be a real surge in new members wanting to join the group of late. The nostalgia and history of the places and items presented continues to amaze us. One the interesting aspects of this group is how some members interpret the abandoned. They come up with stuff we would have never thought of being abandoned. Of course, this is a Good Thing and an Eye Opener.

We just crossed over the 2000 members mark! Yahoo!

Capturing the Abandoned Podcast

The Intro Episode of Capturing the Abandoned Podcast has been launched on Anchor.

We wanted to widen the scope of covering "The Abandoned" with this podcast to include the United States and anywhere else in the world where there are like minded RUREX and URBEX abandoned explorers such as ourselves.

The first real episode of Capturing the Abandoned will include an interview with one of our Instagram inspirations, Jackson Faulkner out of Washington state. We were also planning to cover in depth, several safety items to consider when one is out exploring but the interview, thankfully, went a little longer than we thought it would. We will hopefully have the safety information in the next episode. Almost all of the safety items we plan to discuss will pertain to anyone who likes to get out in nature or in the big city to hike and explore.

You can download and or subscribe to the podcast wherever most podcasts are served, including; Anchor, Apple Podcasts, Breaker, Google Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Stitcher, RadioPublic, and Spotify.

We put together a Facebook Page for it and you will find it HERE. (Excuse the mess - still under construction!)

Lex to Drop a New CD!

Mr. Lex Nichols has been working for some time now on a new album titled "Turning Point" that he plans to release probably sometime in April. He will also be putting some YouTube videos together as well.

A Few from the Collection

As many of you know from our artwork, we search out many different types of subject matter for our images. One good thing about where we live is these elements are always presenting themselves to us, sometimes even when we least expect it. The high plains of Colorado are richly endowed with many different elements of the abandoned and these subjects and locations are scattered far and wide. We are very grateful to be able to bring these images to you. It is our way of capturing the past to help preserve it for the future.

We currently have many of our images on display at the Galaxy Gallery located at 108 North Main Street in downtown Lamar, CO. Please stop by and take a look.

The Quest Continues!
